Events in New York City; Chicago; Buffalo, New York; and Puerto Rico will celebrate the life and work of JULIA DE BURGOS, whose name is synonymous with the Puerto Rican diaspora experience. She was born on February 17, 1914 in Carolina, Puerto Rico and died tragically in New York City on July 6, 1953 at the age of 39. Julia’s poetry was her life force, her praxis. In her poetry, she consolidated her subjective experience with the social and personal reality of her time.
